Book Review: SefiieNomics - A Seriously Funny Guide to Living the Good Life By Revant Himatsighka

Selfienomics

Author : Revant Himatsingka
Genre : Non-Fiction
Publisher : Bloomsbury India

Books Epigram -

Original version of a #selfie: Taking a photo of yourself rather than having someone else take it for you. You try out various filters and select the one that makes you look your best. #Selfienomics version of a #selfie: reflecting on different aspects of your life and taking the initiative to improve so that you can be the best version of yourself."
And so begins Selfienomics, the first Indian self-help book written for young people by a young entrepreneur who speaks their language. Offering workable, practical advise on how to manage finances, start a business, complete creative projects and how to be a better citizen, Selfienomics is so funny, upbeat and entertaining, it's not just a must-read but also a mast-read.

This is a motivational book written by a certified health coach ‘Revant’. Revant is a young writer and have tried to share his experience and observation through this book. He tried to touch different aspects of life and expressed his thoughts in a different ways. He has shown his approach and opinion on different aspects openly and honestly, which is really very good. Writer has tried to make this book interactive by adding hashtags. However there are few topics where I found that the things are not clear, like religion topic. Most of the topics that he included are the one we gone though in our daily life in the form of different blogs and article or case studies.

My Critique -
I have to admit that I have read better motivational books than this. Revant has studied in US and experienced US culture very closely, hence he tried to make some amalgamation of India and US culture in his advice. Author needs to remember that when you are motivating someone then you cannot be sheer selfish, for example, author talk about Wingman’s theory which I found sheer selfish in order to make a healthy relationship. My perception is that other people can easily judge you when you are attaching someone with some goal or object. Similarly I don’t think that suggesting someone about their religious belief is at all a good idea. You should leave it on a person’s upbringing or surrounding rather you can suggest parenting tips there. Adding funny Bollywood hashtag idea is really very good and at some points very funny too.

I picked this book as I found the topic new and very unique. The cover page says that it’s a seriously funny guide to living a good life but I didn’t find any kind of fun anywhere rather some serious advice every time. Only funny part for me were the hashtags that way I was misguided.
This book is a good effort from author’s perspective as he is very young and yet to learn a lot from his coming life and experiences. I like health suggestion section most than other topics in the book. For those who have never read any motivational sort of book, this is a good read but definitely not the best read.
